December 2025 Snowfall Campaign

Support us this December as we try to beat the snowiest year on record

Every $15 in our December giving campaign adds half an inch of snow. Can we make it to 45.2 inches, the snowiest December on record?

Dreaming of a snowy winter? For the past 125 years the Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center has been measuring snowfall on the summit of Great Blue Hill, about 10 miles south of Boston. Its observations form one of the longest continuous daily weather datasets in the United States.

In December 1945, the observatory measured 45.2 inches of snow—the snowiest December recorded to date.

This December, we’re challenging our community to see if we can beat the record snowfall campaign in a fundraising campaign to support our work in education, collections, and public programming. Can you help us make it a proper Massachusetts winter? For every $15 you donate, we’ll add another half inch of snow to our counter below, and send you a special gift in the mail to show our appreciation. We’re trying to pile up 45.2 inches before the end of the month!
