The unique map displayed here was made for the purpose of showing proposed roads between the Susquehanna River and Philadelphia, Reading, and Wilmington, Delaware. The machine to the left, which does not directly relate to the map, was used for cutting files. The map accompanied "An abstract of Sunday papers and propasals for improving the inland navigation of Pennsylvania and Maryland" in Transactions of the American Philosophical Society.
