Book Discussion Group: The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee

February 13, 2020 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center
700 Boylston St.
Boston MA 02116

The Leventhal Map & Education Center is hosting a winter book group related to America Transformed, its westward expansion exhibition. The group will read David Treuer’s The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: Native America from 1890 to the Present, a history and reflection on the ways indigenous people have leveraged avenues of resistance and preservation in the face of attempted physical and narrative erasure by Euro-Americans. Not only are Native people still here, they are leading the way as we confront global challenges in the 21st century.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday, January 23rd in the Leventhal Map & Education Center at the main branch of the Boston Public Library in Copley Square, 700 Boylston Street. We’ll have copies of the book available for readers to check out with their own library cards on our first meeting  and will begin our discussions by getting to know each other a bit and sharing our interests in the book.  We will meet again on the evenings of January 30th, February  13th and February 20th. We hope you’ll join us!
